event – Amgueddfa Corwen Museum http://www.corwenmuseum.org.uk Corwen Museum | Amgueddfa Corwen Wed, 29 Sep 2021 09:24:14 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.3.4 Spectacular World War 1 Weekend 24th and 25th February 2018 /spectacular-world-war-1-weekend-24th-and-25th-february-2018/ Wed, 17 Jan 2018 12:26:57 +0000 /?p=424

Corwen Museum re-opens on Saturday February 24th with a spectacular Open Weekend full of displays and activities based on the First World War.  Come and see the army camp and taste the food they ate.   Find out about the weapons they used and the uniforms they wore.  The Exhibition runs on the Saturday and Sunday from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm.  There is free admission.

Inside the Museum there will be a special poppy installation created by the Corwen Youth Club, with 145 poppies to commemorate the 144 men and 1 woman who are named on the Edeyrnion War Memorials.  Books of Remembrance will also be displayed along with our new Exhibition on how Corwen and its villages helped the war effort. There will be a reconstructed trench, with officer’s dugout and hospital field station.  We are grateful for funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to enable us to put on these displays.

The Museum is also celebrating the Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), with the beautiful work of renowned stained glass designer, Alf Fisher, displayed in our lovely chapel windows.  They will be amazing.

This is a weekend not to be missed!

Exhibition news /exhibition-news/ Sun, 11 May 2014 11:29:04 +0000 http://www.canedeyrnion.org.uk/?p=156 There have been some very exciting developments regarding the Railway Exhibition. Can Edeyrnion are working with Llangollen Railway Trust and Corwen Railway Society to make the Exhibition a permanent museum, based at Capel Coch in Corwen. This has the full backing of the Heritage Lottery Funders and will open to coincide with the first passenger train to arrive in Corwen – hopefully in July this year. A series of temporary exhibitions will run alongside the permanent exhibits covering all aspects of the heritage and culture of the Edeyrnion area. We are looking for volunteers to help in all aspects of running the exhibitions and invite local groups and organisations to come forward with ideas and support for the temporary displays. We want this to be a museum involving the whole community.

Can Edeyrnion celebrates receiving a Heritage Lottery Grant of 8400 pounds /new-post-not-for-slideshow/ /new-post-not-for-slideshow/#respond Wed, 17 Oct 2012 20:43:39 +0000 http://www.llangollenweb.co.uk/canedeyrnion/?p=21 The champagne is out to help us celebrate receiving a Heritage Lottery grant to fund two exhibitions in 2014.

The first exhibition will be held to coincide with the first passenger trains coming into Corwen since the Beeching cuts. There will be displays to tell the story of the restoration of the line from Llangollen, as well as an exhibition of the history of the train in the Corwen area.

The second exhibition will coincide with the Walking Festival in August and will be describing in pictures the walking heritage of Edeyrnion and the Dee Valley.

Our first exhibition held in 2012 /blog-post-test/ /blog-post-test/#respond Wed, 17 Oct 2012 20:35:43 +0000 http://www.llangollenweb.co.uk/canedeyrnion/?p=14 Our first exhibition was held in September 2012 and was about Corwen as a Railway Town. We received over 500 visitors who very much enjoyed the old photographs which brought back so many memories. There were lots of stories told by people reminiscing about the past and a huge buzz of excitement for those of us who were acting as stewards.
